Panel for Historical Engineering Works Scottish Group trip to East Sutherland

The trip to East Sutherland includes 3 nights’ accommodation in Dornoch. Travel will be by coach and train.
ICE members and members of the public wishing to join for one day only will be most welcome.
3 days’ Dinner Bed & Breakfast plus travel costs comes to approximately £400 per person.
Points of interest are:-
- The most northerly of the major Scottish hydro-electric schemes
- The two most northern freight-carrying canals in the UK
- The location of the most northerly coalmine in the UK
- The site of the tramway that carried coal from the mine to the harbour and railway station
- The oldest fish-ladder in the world
- The oldest bridge in Sutherland
- The site of the UK naval gunnery range
- The listening outpost of Government Central Communications Headquarters (GCHQ)
- The most northerly railway heritage centre in Britain
- Journey along the full length of The Sutherland Railway
The journey sets off from Inverness at 13.30 on Thursday 4 July and finishes back in Inverness at 16.15 on Sunday 7 July. Accommodation is available for those who wish to stay for another day.
