Andrew Wright OBE drew upon a lifetime’s interest in industrial archaeology and, in particular, railway history in recounting the remarkable achievements of the Highland’s foremost civil engineer, Joseph Mitchell, 1803-1883

What, perhaps, is less appreciated was his skill as an architect, a talent he put to good advantage in the building of his own villa at Viewhill and in the artistry he applied to the many structures that grace the Highland landscape.

Mitchell's works included responsibility for Highlands roads and bridges, from age 21, railways, 40 Highland and Island  churches, and Fishery Harbours throughout Scotland.

CPDC-HI Chair Alan Higgins gave a biography of Prof James Attwood's life and many achievements for Inverness, Europe and in several middle-east and indian postings
